At Spring Media, we work with clients from all over the country that offer a wide array of products and services. We love getting to know our clients, their passions, and their products – it helps us do what we do best: move their business forward! Beginning with this client spotlight, we want to show you who we work for, what they are about, and what’s driving small businesses.

Meet Jordan Williams of Southern Woods

Jordan Williams of Southern WoodsWe are excited to introduce you to one extraordinary businessman (and our youngest client, ever!), Jordan Williams of Southern Woods. Jordan is Freshman majoring in Finance at Louisiana Tech while also building his business and continuing to expand the Southern Woods product line. Born and raised in ‘Sportsman’s Paradise”, Jordan truly is a Louisiana outdoorsman. He killed his first deer at age 6 and has bagged 47 white tails to date with both gun and bow. He currently holds records in the state of Texas for turkey hunting and is also an avid fisherman.

The Birth of a Business

At 18 years old, and only a few weeks after his high school graduation, Jordan decided he wanted to try his hand at wood turning. He had recently learned the technique of wood turning from Ruston resident, Alan Tuten, whom he met while the two were involved in their Church’s ministry. His paternal great grandfather and grandfather as well as maternal great grandfather were/are woodworking hobbyist. Their handy work ranges from handcrafted baskets, bowls, furniture, clocks etc so I guess you could say woodworking is in his DNA!

Southern Woods Louisiana Tech PenUsing his grandfather’s shop and tools, Jordan turned four pens and it was then that his passion was born. His one-of-a-kind pens were so impressive and unique that his mother encouraged him to sell his pens and pursue his hobby on a larger scale. So, on July 13th, 2014 he made his first sale after showing his pens to a local business man who bought every one of them. He was so blown away by the response that he immediately went to work making more pens using a variety of wood and deer antler. In his first two weeks in business, he sold nearly 100 pens!

Growing a Brand

Southern-Woods-Cover-Photo1After only a few months in business and hundreds of pens sold, Jordan was ecstatic to see his pens being purchased by local individuals as well as those from Monroe, Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, New Iberia, Lafayette and even Salt Lake City, Utah. With this momentum, Jordan knew he needed to do two things: expand his product line and create a brand for his company.

He decided to add specialty laser burning for those who wanted their company logo and he also expanded his product line to include mechanical pencils, iPad stylus in two sizes, letter openers, razors, fire starters, wine stoppers, duck calls and deer grunt calls.

Jordan hired Spring Media to help create a professional look for his company as well as create social media accounts and graphics to expand his brand awareness. We worked with Jordan to give him branding that matched the quality of his products while showcasing the passion behind the product. Next on the agenda is creating an e-commerce site for Jordan. We can’t wait to see the future of this business and are very proud of this young man and all of his accomplishments!
